Education Dr Neil Thomson is a very experienced and fully qualified Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon. He attended medical school at Otago University after completing a Bachelor of Science at Canterbury University majoring in botany and organic chemistry. Dr Thomson worked in Dunedin and Nelson and Wellington to complete his training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery. Post Fellowship Experience Dr Thomson travelled to the United Kingdom to work at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat hospital, Royal Brighton Hospital and Hull Royal infirmary. Dr Thomson returned to New Zealand to work as an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist in Wellington and then Nelson. After a number of years Dr Thomson migrated to Australia and is currently the Head of Department at Gosford Hospital. Dr Thomson is involved in education of medical students and surgical trainees and has previously been an examiner. He established the head and neck research group and is involved in aboriginal health outreach. Dr Thomson does annual aid work on the African Mercy Hospital Ship in west Africa. Special Interests Dr Thomson has a keen interest in skin cancers of the head and neck including reconstruction techniques. He has significant experience in salivary gland surgery and thyroid surgery. Dr Thomson’s keen eye for detail and artistic abilities make him an outstanding facial cosmetic surgeon and he has vast experience in otoplasty, rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty.
